Kudos to Mr. Parris

I first discovered Parris' writings around 1972 while visiting my parents who had retired to Pine Creek Community in Cullowhee. Recently, I started rereading his books and it has drawn my heart back to those mountains which had changed little in Mr. Parris's times but are drastically different now. His writings reflect back on a simpler time, a quieter time yet a much more difficult time to live. How he makes me miss those mountains and those people, many of whom are passed on. I was saved in Pine Creek Baptist Church and baptized in Pine Creek. And the folk of that community were part and parcel of those writings. When he wrote of the Jarrott House in Sylva, their delicious foods and such, it made it necessary that my wife and I spent a night there... unfortunately things have changed there, too. Those storied mountains... how they pluck the strings of my heart, bring tears to my eyes, and stirs old memories when I could visit my parents there 50 years ago. God bless the work of brings John Parris writings back to the present.
