The Abingdon Wolf Project
Abingdon Main Street Abingdon, Virginia
The Abingdon Wolf Project, launching on May 19th, 2026, is a new interactive public art experience powered by Bandwango that invites visitors and locals to explore town through a curated trail of artist-designed wolf sculptures while earning prizes along the way. This FREE mobile passport offers a guided journey through Abingdon, blending art, history, and discovery in a uniquely immersive format.
Inspired by Abingdon’s original name, “Wolf Hills,” the project features a series of decorated fiberglass wolf sculptures placed throughout the community. Each wolf has been designed and painted by local and regional artists selected through a juried process, transforming the town into an open-air gallery that celebrates creativity, place, and identity.
Participants can visit each installation, and unlock digital content including artist insights, design inspiration, and behind-the-scenes stories. The passport encourages exploration across Abingdon’s walkable downtown and beyond, creating an engaging experience for families, visitors, and art enthusiasts alike. As participants complete stops along the trail, they will have the opportunity to earn points towards a prize while discovering the unique character of the town.
Following the public exhibition, the wolves will be auctioned at the Mistletoe Market Gala on November 7th, with proceeds benefiting the William King Museum of Art and supporting the artists who brought each sculpture to life.
“The Abingdon Wolf Project is a celebration of who we are, our history, our creativity, and our sense of place,” said Mandy Barker of William King Museum of Art. “By combining public art with interactive technology, we’re creating an experience that invites people to explore, engage, and connect with Abingdon in a meaningful way. It’s something that will resonate with both visitors and our local community.”
Made possible through a collaboration between the Town of Abingdon and the William King Museum of Art, the Abingdon Wolf Project highlights the power of partnerships in bringing dynamic cultural experiences to life.
